On the way home I noticed a tree service doing what they do and a pile of logs waiting to be hoisted into the back of a dump truck. I intervened on the tree's behalf and learned there was some red oak that they were happy for me to take off their hands. I hurried home and got the pickup and they craned these logs into the bed for me. The carving bench sits in the shop and has become an essential holding device in my woodworking pursuits.
